Valentine’s Day Tips From Your Cupertino Dentist

Within a matter of days, people throughout California will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with their sweethearts. Did you know that Americans will purchase over a $1 billion worth of chocolate for this holiday? Valentine’s Day is widely celebrated among people of all ages. Dr. Randall LaFrom and our staff have composed some helpful hints to make your mouth kissable, keep your breath fresh, and improve your smile.

  • Schedule a dental cleaning before the big day. Dental cleanings will ensure that your mouth is free from odor-causing debris and bacteria. In addition, dental cleanings help remove surface stains thus brightening your smile.
  • Make sure to keep your lips hydrated and moisturized. Winter weather such as dry air deprives your lips of necessary nutrients that keep your lips healthy. Apply a moisturizing lip balm throughout the day (this advice goes for guys, too).
  • Drink water throughout the day. Water helps dilute odor-causing particles and rinses your mouth of debris that also contribute to bad breath.
  • If you choose to use breath mints or gum to freshen your breath, look for the ingredient xylitol on the back of the package. Xylitol, a sugar substitute, reduces your sugar intake and can kill harmful bacteria.
  • Avoid foods and spices such as garlic, onions, curry, and cardamom. When you consume the foods and spices, they release odor when you exhale. As your digestive system breaks down the compounds of these foods, the components that cause bad breath enter the lungs.

If you’re looking to whiten your smile before Valentine’s Day, Dr. LaFrom offers clinical-strength whitening. We use Zoom! Whitening, one of the most popular and effective in-office teeth whitening treatments. To schedule a dental cleaning or a whitening treatment, contact our Cupertino dentist office at (408) 996-8595. We serve patients from Sunnyvale, Saratoga, San Jose, Campbell, and Santa Clara County.
