General Dentistry: What to Expect at Your Appointment

A routine dental exam and tooth cleaning is essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Our office offers a full line of general dental services including routine examinations, x-rays, fillings, porcelain crowns, inlays/onlays, bleaching, invisible braces, dental implant restorations, root canals, periodontal, and denture services. We continually strive to maintain the latest techniques, materials and equipment to ensure that we provide the highest level of care for all our patients.

Your initial visit is based on completing a step-by-step examination to determine the condition of your teeth, gums, TMJs, jaw muscles, bite function and aesthetics of your smile. This exam creates a starting point from which to diagnose potential problems, aesthetic options, and your future dental health and well being.

Your dental exam will include (one or more of the following):

  1. Visual and tactile exam of jaw joints, muscles and lymph nodes
  2. Ultrasonic stethoscope used to determine any damage inside the jaw joints
  3. Evaluation of your bite and its effects on your teeth and jaws
  4. Oral cancer screening
  5. Screening for periodontal (gum) disease
  6. X-rays to detect decay, periodontal disease, jaw joint health, etc.
  7. Examination of your teeth for cavities, cracks, wear or other problems
  8. Diagnodent – a laser cavity detector
  9. Photographs
  10. Models of your teeth (if needed) mounted on a chewing simulator
